I have been told that the motherboard is tied to the windows license and when you install the O/s you don't require a key it does it automatically, is this correct.
if so, if i purchase a system with no license or replace a board can i tie it to the motherboard manually?

I Have installed Dell Open manager on powerEdge R710 with the version of 7.4.0
after that when I have tried to open the browser using http://<servername>:1311 it is showing blank screen

I have a pesky PE 2950 which I just upgraded all its firmware to their latest versions that refuses to allow the OS riding on top (Windows 2008 R2) to see the new 300GB drive expansion size.
I had two 67GB drives on a RAID 1. I removed one via cli at bootup and swapped it with a 300GB. Replication from the exisitng 67GB drive to the new 300GB went w/o a hitch. I then removed the final 67GB drive from the same RAID set and replaced it with the second 300GB drive and replicated w/o issue. The OS booted w/o issue. Despite the fact that PERC 6/i is at its most recent version (as well as the other firmware mentioned in this title), I still only see a 67GB volume in Windows! I scanned the drives and nothing -- just a 67GB volume. What am I missing here? I thought for sure I would see the spare 211.12GB Available RAID Disk Space, but I don't. OMSA clearly shows the virtual disks in RAID one as "Capacity 278.88GB". Both drives are identical. In Physical Disks I see Capacity 278.88GB, Used RAID Disk Space 67.75GB, but, again, Windows 2008 R2 does not see the extra space. I even downloaded Acronis' tool-set to double check. It, too, only sees 67GB. Confused.

How do I install windows server 2008 R2 on my Dell PowerEdge FS12-NV7. Ive been looking for days on how to do this. Im really confused and I would love it if someone would just help me and tell me how to do this and not drag me around places and tell me to do loads of pointless things that dont help me.

Hi we just put two new drives each into two of our machines. They are
r410 with Perc 6/i, 2 x 3TB WD Red drives
r510 with H700, 2 x Samsung EVO 250 GB
We plugged in the drives and didn't initialize them before we turned on the machine. Is the only option now to shut the machines down and issue Ctrl + R before boot to manage the drives?
We are not even seeing these newly plugged in drives show up in the Dell OpenManage Server Administrator.
Or is there any other easier alternatives? We have iDRAC express on the machines, but I don't see any options that would help me in there.
I have been looking for a Deployment Driver Pack for PowerEdge R430 so I can deploy Windows Server 2012 R2 but I have failed to find anything on Dell's website that works. I found this file "Drivers-for-OS-Deployment_Application_TPJWF_WN64_15.04.07_A00.EXE". but it does not install during the task sequence. (I have done this successfully for the R420 & R820)
I am working with a server remotely trying to determine the item number for our motherboard. It is a PowerEdge T410, nothing is coming up through the system information or the service tag. I see there are quite a few different models available. Is there anything that can help me narrow this down? We were trying to add a second processor and discovered the second socket has been damaged from the manufacturer.
Hi, I have a number of R730xd servers with PERC H730 RAID controllers. I have configured the drives as JBOD by creating a virtual drive for each in RAID 0. So each physical drive has its own virtual RAID-0 drive. Can I migrate one of them to RAID 1 without losing data? I can delete one of the virtual drives on the same controller so there is a spare drive available. I found some references to RAID level migration, but no information on how to actually do it. |
I have rebooted a new (installed some days ago by the specialist of a shop) Poweredge T20 normally, but unexpectedly it enters the Setup page.
If I click on "exit" it restarts again and enters again in Setup page.

I have a Dell Poweredge R515 that I'm trying to upgrade from a single Opteron 4130 to a pair of Opteron 4376 HE CPUs.

the Opteron 4376 HEs that I have are supported. However, installing them and trying to boot gives the following error:
"Error: Unsupported CPU and motherboard combination. Please install AMD OPTERON 4100 series CPU".
I've already updated to the latest BIOS (2.3.0)--what else can I do to fix this?

We are trying to boot the boot Dell Poweredge 2950 server from ISO image. We logged in to DRAC-->Media-->Enabe ISO image File under CD/DVD –ROM Drive -->Browse the image path. "Connect" option is disabled or greyed-out.
Please suggest a solution to this problem.

Issue/Symptoms: System online in production approximately a month. No issues during that time. One morning we received SCOM alerts on high CPU. Upon investigation, the Hyper-V Host CPU was averaging 25% with spikes to 50%, the VM's CPU average 80% spiking to 100%. Memory is not an issue on either Host or VM's. No system changes were identified. System performance severely degraded, users report slow access to network shares, users directories.
Troubleshooting: Rebooted (several times), upgrading NIC Firmware/Drivers, uninstalling McAfee, Backup Exec and the SCOM Monitoring Agent with no results. We were leaning towards it being a VM issue on the host so we opened a case with Microsoft. Throughout 10+ hours we supplied traces using Perfmon, Process Explorer and XPerf which were all inconclusive. It was grueling getting the traces and reports to complete because of the degraded system performance.
Resolution: Logging into the IDRAC, booting to the BIOS, select System Profile, change the profile from Performance per Watt to Performance.
Immediate results... Hyper V Host CPU dropped to 0% - 4% average. It was like a new system.
The posts in this forum by user "LSLC" assisted immensely towards a resolution.

Can I Add 1 Harddisk to Virtual Disk 1 ?
I dont want Virtual disk 0 delete too.
My OS using VMware ESXi 5.5 and I using OMSA.

I have a poweredge 2900 server (it is no longer under warranty). Yesterday I saw a warning icon in OpenManage for Power Supply 1: "presence detected. Predictive failure". So I shutted down the server and extracted the supplier. After 10 secs I pluged it back. Then the warning icon was gone.
This morning I checked again PS1 status on OpenManager, and the warning is back. I checked the log and every 2 minutes i get these messages: "A predictive failure detected on power supply 1" followed by "Power supply 1 is operating normally":

I really don't know how should I proceed... Should I wait till the PS 1 fails? If so, will PS2 keep the server "going on"?

In a PowerEdge 2900, Perc 5/i. Two arrays, a 4 HDD RAID 5 and a 2 HDD RAID1. RAID 1 is fine.
RAID 5 array, a single disk was showing amber. We replaced the drive with a seagate, same model as the rest in the array. Array rebuilt, things were working fine. Fast forward approximately 10 days, another drive in the RAID 5 array shows amber. We ordered another seagate and replaced. In the process of rebuilding the array, we lost had another go amber. The config utility reported the array as failed. Restarted the server, and the controller reported "foreign config". Imported the config, and the array came back online. However now all four drives in the array are blinking amber. Can not boot in to the OS, nor even boot to Windows install CD.

the server look like its working as there s light on the HDD but the screen is black and not able to ping it to access it remotely
