Dell Poweredge Server 1600.
My server power on, but I get no post, no video, and no beeps because someone disabled the speaker in BIOS.
I've been told to see if the CMOS battery is dead, but we have some important stuff that wasn't backed up on the drives.
Will I lose my RAID settings if I remove the CMOS BATTERY?
Can't update LifeCycle Controller from v.1.2.0.8, A00 on DellR610
Hi I have just recently acquired a DellR610 to test configurations and
experiment with. It has 2 X E5504, 12GB ram, and no drives at present. I am
just trying to update the firmware and other things first, then the RAID
controllers, then drives, etc.
After reading around on the best way to update all the firmware components,
I used the Dell Repository Manager, and basically created a "repository" for
all the latest R610 firmware / BIOS "updates" using the repository manager. I then created a bootable iso from that, used rufus to
flash it to a thumb drive and then booted the R610 from that. That ran
though all 108 updates, etc and updated various pieces of firmware, the
main BIOS to 6.4.0, the iDrac, the broadcom NIC controllers, etc.
Actually I found out that the update to the Dell Unified Server Configurator - LifeCycle is not "working". He is a screen shot of the update starting. It recognises I have 1.2.0.8, A00 installed and it wasn't to install 1.6.5.12.
It starts the: Executing update...
WARNING DO NOT STOP THIS PROCESS OR INSTALL OTHERS DELL PRODUCTS WHILE UPDATE
IS IN PROGRESS.
THESE ACTIONS MAY CAUSE YOUR SYSTEM TO BECOME UNSTABLE!
............................................................
............................................................
............................................................
And the dots go on for quite a while but I haven't stuck around to see the error message at the end... It takes ages and I go off and do something and come back later and it has already scrolled off screen... [Update: I stuck around and somewhere through the process the following is issued: "cp: cannot stat '/var/log/messages': No such file or directory" Then after lots more dots... the final message reads `Execution operation exceeded specified timeout.` and then it just proceeds to the other updates...]
But in any case once I reboot I see the System Services Update Required in the
upper right of the boot screen. Once I try to enter system services it hangs at the splash screen:
There is the big Dell logo in the center and the words: "Entering System Services... Starting Unified Server Configurator" but it never gets past there... It just hangs for a long time more than 45 minutes the first time...
I have no OS installed on the server. I can also boot to a FreeDos flash drive and run updates, etc... but which update will fix this? I thought maybe 11G_LC_Repair_Package_1.6.5.12_A00.usc would fix this but that looks like it has to be applied through iDrac which I also can't seem to get running... (I'll separately post about this)
Thanks,
Jason
PowerEdge T110 II network and SAS
Hi
I have a 2 years old T110 II server and I want to install an additional dual port GB card like Dell Broadcom 5720 for a Hyper-V installation and a Perc H310 card which can be easy found in my country. But neither one is listed for compatibility with this server. It is possibile to do that or not ???
Further, when I searched Dell site for H310 it listed only one integrated H310 different than one that I intend to buy which appears like an ordinary PCI card ! Are they different models for H310 ???
Here Dell barebone servers are advirtised like working with SAS drives but are sold without Perc controller... :-)
Any help or suggestion will be apreciated. Thanks
Virtualizing an R610 With Existing RAID Puncture?
Got a physical R610 with a drive showing as failed. Replaced it with no joy. Also see in the event logs that the RAID has a "puncture".
We were getting ready to do a P2V (VMWare physical to virtual) conversion on this box. Any issues with going ahead and doing the P2V or do we need to rebuild the array first?
Thanks.
perc s300 drivers for windows repair
I have a T410 that is blue screening. Perc s300 BIOS shows a degraded status with all four drives online. We are running Raid 10. Windows attempts to repair startup issues but can't find drives. I need to find the correct driver files to load into windows repair. I've downloaded the setup file and extracted the files but which files should I point too?
Thanks!
R710: A bus fatal error was detected on a component at bus 3 device 0 function 0
Hello
We have an R710 that crashed over the weekend. The system event log shows me the following errors:
A bus fatal error was detected on a component at bus 0 device 4 function 0.
A bus fatal error was detected on a component at bus 3 device 0 function 0.
I ran lspci and get the following
00:00:04.0 PCI bridge Bridge: Intel Corporation 5520/X58 I/O Hub PCI Express Root Port 4 [PCIe RP[00:00:04.0]]
Class 0604: 8086:340b
00:03:00.0 RAID bus controller Mass storage controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic Dell PERC 6/i Integrated [vmhba1]
Class 0104: 1000:0060
I rebooted the R710 and it came up ok. What's my next step to resolve this? Do I have to replace the motherboard? Can I ignore it since the server came back up? Guidance and suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott
Poweredge 1950 - Single bit warning error rate exceeded
Hi,
Over the past few days, three of our PE1950's in two separate data centers have reported:
Possible memory module event cause:Single bit warning error rate exceeded,Single bit failure error rate exceeded
We do have hundreds of these servers, but I just think it is strange a bit of a strange coincidence for three of them to have the same issue within days of each other.
In each case it is a 4gb module which has been reported as having the issue. In one of the servers that had the issue, DIMM 8 was reported as having the problem, so I swapped DIMM's 7&8 with a pair of known working 2GB DIMM's (not from the same server) - I didn't have any spare 4gb DIMM's to hand and the issue appears to have moved to DIMM 4
All of the servers are on BIOS 2.7.0, two of the affected servers are G2 and the other is G3.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this strange coincidence and the behavior I've noticed while troubleshooting?
Thanks
James
Poweredge R410 Strange Network Issues
I have 3 Poweredge R410 servers that I purchased around the same time. 2 exhibit this strange behavior where at some point, it stops reporting to WSUS and at the same time, doesn't allow you to RDP into the machine. The machine is still alive and functioning. We run rendering software which we can remotely call which still runs, but in terms of trying to get on to the machine, I physically need to logon to the machine itself.
We've reinstalled the operating system on both devices and it still occurs. It leads me to believe that it's hardware related so I'm going through and running Bios and firmware updates but just wanted to see if anyone else has had this sort of issue before? It's happened on both Windows Server 2003 R2 and 2008 R2

Power Edge R710: Memory arrangement
Hello,
I have 4 memory DIMMs of 40 Gb total size I want to install on my R710. the DIMMs are distributed as follow:
4x 2Gb
4x 8Gb
I tried sevral arrangements of DIMMs:
8-2-0-8-2-0-0-0-0***0-0-0-0-2-8-0-2-8
8-8-0-2-2-0-0-0-0***0-0-0-0-2-2-0-8-8
2-2-0-8-0-0-8-0-0***0-0-8-0-0-8-0-2-2
but at the end, I only get 32 Gb of available memory.
How can I get 40Gb of total available memory.
Thanks.
PowerEdge T420 Raid Configuration script
I have over 200 T420 servers to deploy. I need an automated solution to set the RAID and bios settings during imaging. I'm new to Dell servers and exhausted with searching for an answer. I normally deploy images very simply by using MDT for in house and pure PE for field techs. Could someone help with a Dell utility, Powershell script or vbscript?

IDRAC 7 Firmware Upgrade Problems
c6100 node stopped powering on
I have a c6100 node in the 4th slot that will not power on. I tried swapping node 4th slot with slot 3, the issue followed the node. The most recent change was adding a 10G card I since removed it to see if that was an issue but host still not powering on.
PERC 5/i question
Hi,
I need to expand the size of my VHD for file server but only way to do it is by transferring it to bigger storage space as my current RAID1 setup is out of space.
Could you let me know if the below steps look correct?
Quick background:
I have Power Edge 2950 with PERC 5/i and 6x 3.5 inch slots. Two are occupied by RAID 1 with MS Hyper-v, another two by File server again in RAID 1 and final two by email server in RAID 1.
My plan of action was:
1. Shutdown the physical server.
2. Remove two HDDs making RAID 1 with Email Server
3. Insert in their place two new HDDs and configure them in PERC 5/i as RAID 1
4. Boot to Hyper-v
5. In hyper-v management console Export and import File Server to newly created volume out of new RAID 1 config.
6. Shutdown physical host.
7. Remove two HDDs creating RAID 1 which are hosting original File Server
8. Put in back RAID 1 hdds with Exchange server in place of RAID 1 with old File Server
9. During POST Import foreign config (with Exchange server) when prompt
Done?
Unless there is a simpler way? Or am I a missing something (other then of course resizing of VHD once on new RAID 1 config?
Thanks guys
Dell idrac openssl MITM vulnerability
Hi
We use nessus to scan our network. My most recent scan reports several openssl vulnerabilitis with a cvss score of 9.3, (rated HIGH), see below for details. The products found affected are:
Dell idrac6 1.97
Dell idrac7 1.57.57
Nessus says that the vulnerabilty is confirmed, and the openssl version could also be vulnerable to other openssl issues release on the same day as the OpenSSL 'ChangeCipherSpec' MiTM Vulnerability" released on the 5th of june.
Is this confirmed by dell? will patches be released for this vulnerabilties?

Dell R610 motherboard replacement model number
Since I haven't got any further with the E1000 Failsafe voltage error. Contact support. The next thing to do I guess is replace the motherboard of the Dell R610. Looking on eBay there are a number of different model / serial numbers that are mentioned Eg: F0XJ6, 3YWXK, XDN97, 0NCY41 08GXHX and others. What is the motherboard model / serial number I should actually be using for replacement in this Dell R610 which has this failsafe voltage error? Are there other serial numbers this depends on?
(Maybe I am not looking in the right place but even when I enter the service tag in the support web site I can't find the serial number of the motherboard... Let alone if I should be getting the same motherboard again or maybe a "better" one?)
Thanks!

PowerEdge R320 installing a SSD in place of the optical drive
I'm new to Dell servers but am trying to replace the optical drive with a SSD for a boot disk. The back plane is only 4x and those I want to use the existing 3.5" drives for RAID.
We bought a power adapter for the regular size SATA power, the cable says SATA / TBU which I don't know what that means. With the SSD powered, the server will not boot and has an error about the 5v rail out of range.
Anyone have any ideas or an alternate way to install a 2.5" drive?
