Hello All.

I want to upgrade RAM on my DELL T410 Server but  I have the following error when I try to insert a 8GB RDIMM module:

"MEMBIST failure – The following DIMM has been disabled by Bios: DIMM B2"

I know the memory module is ok, if I try it on another slot, it work just fine.

Also if I insert the original 2GB module in slot B2, I have no problem at all.

I want to install 48GB of RAM (8GB x 6 Modules) I know the right configuration should be A1,A2,A3 and B1,B2,B3

I have try mixing several configurations with the four slots but if I insert the 8GB module It always give me the MEMBIST error, so I'm stuck only with 8GB per procesor (16GB total).

Can somebody help me?

My meroy module is:

R720xd & PERC H710mini - configuring raid, hard drives are not detected

$

Hi

First of all, please bare with me (if I ask/say really stupid stuff), I just started working with all that.

Setup: R720xd (6x "Constellation ES.3 4TB" in the front, 2x "Enterprise Performance 10K HHD v7" in the back) and a PERC H710 mini

Goal: Raid 5 with the 6 "big" drives and raid 1 with the 2 "small" drives

Current State: everything boots up fine, all the drives are "detected" (= are shown during the boot process). The H710 is detected too, seems to work fine (except I can't access the greyed out "configure virtual/physical drives")

Problem: I'm not able to set up any kind of raid because there are no physical drives (ctrl+r: everything is greyed out, can't do anything). When I tried setting up a raid in the menu (sorry, don't know what it's called) it says that the hard drives need to be initialized with rom during the boot, I can't find that option for my life.

What to do?

Thanks in advance!

Ramsie

Edit:
Found this thread, unfortunately didn't help.

Answer 1: disable integrated raid controller - then the ctrl-r prompt didn't pop

Answer 2: set PERC as boot device - there is no option to do that

Good Afternoon,

Does anyone know specifically which fan this might be? Anyone have a pinout diagram for this MB? NX642

The server is 60 miles away and I'm trying to determine which fan it is so I can order the part first.

Thanks For any help.

r410 ssd and caddy

We are replacing a failed R410 with a R430.

Thing is we would like to use the dell SSD disks from the R410 in the r430,

We have checked compatibility and it seems the H730P is okay  with the ssd drives (the drives are dell but purchased last year)

What we can't get an answer to is if we need new caddies.

PERC 5/i question

Hi,

I need to expand the size of my VHD for file server but only way to do it is by transferring it to bigger storage space as my current RAID1 setup is out of space.

Could you let me know if the below steps look correct?

Quick background:

I have Power Edge 2950 with PERC 5/i and  6x 3.5 inch slots. Two are occupied by RAID 1 with MS Hyper-v, another two by File server again in RAID 1 and final two by email server in RAID 1.

My plan of action was:

1. Shutdown the physical server.

2. Remove two HDDs making RAID 1 with Email Server

3. Insert in their place two new HDDs and configure them in PERC 5/i as RAID 1

4. Boot to Hyper-v

5. In hyper-v management console Export and import File Server to newly created volume out of new RAID 1 config.

6. Shutdown physical host.

7. Remove two HDDs creating RAID 1 which are hosting original File Server

8. Put in back RAID 1 hdds with Exchange server in place of RAID 1 with old File Server

9. During POST Import foreign config (with Exchange server) when prompt

Done?

Unless there is a simpler way? Or am I a missing something (other then of course resizing of VHD once on new RAID 1 config?

Thanks guys

Critical Alerts Indicating "The Perc1 Battery Has Failed"

$

My company has about ten R720s that have reported "Perc1 battery has failed", generally followed by "Perc1 battery is Operating Normally". This is out of a population of about 100 R720s. These are all using the PERC H710 Mini at firmware 21.2.0-0007, A04. Often the Alerts repeat on a 90 day basis, suggesting this is related to TLC.

In most cases the R720s are in production and using our hypervisor, which prevents us from collecting a DSET or the RAID controller log. In the few cases where we have provided a Raid Controller log, Dell support has indicated the battery Full Charge Capacity was too low so they dispatched a new Perc battery.

Generally we can only provide the IDRAC .sel showing the two entries, Perc1 battery failed followed by the Perc1 Battery Operating Normally (file attached). In these cases Dell has not dispatched a battery and suggested that the issue is related to the 90 Battery Learning Cycle.

If the Learning Cycle is supposed to be transparent, why are we getting these alerts?

Are there known Perc battery reporting issues with the FW level I mentioned? We are suspecting this since in one case we replaced the battery and the problem returned a few months later.

Most of the batteries reporting the failure have a 2011 manufacture date. Is this towards the end of their life?

Thanks in advance!

Mark

Messed up raid when trying to fix

$

I have a Poweredge server with a Perc S100 controller with 4 hard drives (not hot swappable) in a RAID 1 configuration.

I had one hard drive that was degraded (drive 2). I disconnected the wrong hard drive (drive 1) and booted with it disconnected and went into the RAID configuration screen and it told me that one drive had failed (the one I disconnected) and of course the other one it said it was degraded like usual. The computer wouldn't boot into windows and I quickly turned it off and reconnected the hard drive.

When I booted and went into raid mode, it now said drive 1 and 2 were degraded. How do I fix this issue? I would like the good hard drive to show that its working and not degraded before I replace the bad hard drive.

It does boot and it does work right now.

I have a powedge T310 server running windows server 2008.

Dell idrac openssl MITM vulnerability

Hi

We use nessus to scan our network. My most recent scan reports several openssl vulnerabilitis with a cvss score of 9.3, (rated HIGH), see below for details. The products found affected are:

Dell idrac6 1.97

Dell idrac7 1.57.57

Nessus says that the vulnerabilty is confirmed, and the openssl version could also be vulnerable to other openssl issues release on the same day as the OpenSSL 'ChangeCipherSpec' MiTM Vulnerability" released on the 5th of june.

Is this confirmed by dell? will patches be released for this vulnerabilties?

Server not starting

Hi Team,

I got a new motherboard for R410 server, I have installed all the peripherals. But when I power on the server, all fans runs on extremely high speed but nothing happens. Front LCD don't shows anything, neither system turns on nor iDRAC turns on. I have checked the same by minimal components. Tested the same by changing power supplies, RAM, CPU, removing HDDs  but no luck..Help me out as this is a critical server and its already been down for 5days..

Thanks

Pawan

R710 Insufficient power so CPU and RAM run at minimum speed after DIMM re-seat.

I have 6 R710s that all have the exact same hardware configuration. 2 Power supplies, 2 CPU, 12 DIMMS no HDs. One of them had a DIMM unseat and showed an error. I re-seated the DIMM and the problem went away. Now, at bootup that one server says that the power supplys are insufficient to power the system and that it will run at minimum speed. I've tried many things to get it running normal again, upgraded the bios, firmware etc. Checked the power supplies, but still can't get this one running at full speed. If I pull 6 of the DIMMS it will run at full speed.

All the research I have done points to the power supplies not having enough power. The strange thing is, that it has been running that way for 3 years, and I have 5 others that have that exact same config and they work fine. Any one have any ideas?

Migrate RAID-0 to RAID-1 - how?

$

Hi,
I have a number of R730xd servers with PERC H730 RAID controllers.
I have configured the drives as JBOD by creating a virtual drive for each in RAID 0. So each physical drive has its own virtual RAID-0 drive.
Can I migrate one of them to RAID 1 without losing data? I can delete one of the virtual drives on the same controller so there is a spare drive available.
I found some references to RAID level migration, but no information on how to actually do it.

Few disks reported outside enclosure (H730P mini on R730)

After some restore operation few disk are shown outside enclosure (backplane):

And there not all task are available. Only 'Assign Global Hot Spare' and 'Convert to Non-RAID Disks)

How I can fix it?

I have find the description problem at dell support site. Four lights (Green/orange/green/orange) and few pip sounds in a row.

This is description of the problem from support site: Memory modules are detected, but a memory configuration or compatibility error exists.

I try to change  various memory modules,

- 256 MB, 1Rx8 PC2 -3200U -333-10-A1 in pairs (not working), 4 modules (not working).

- 512 MB, 2Rx8 PC2 -3200R-333-10-B1 single (server was working before but in pairs and single in safe mode), not working now.

What shell I do? Thanks for answers.
