"Update not applicable to your computer" on Windows server 2012 R2

$

I have 4 new servers with windows server 2012 R2 installed, I have to patch the servers up-to-date. I have patched 2 servers with no issues and on other 2 servers I'm not able to install any patches. When I try to install a patch the server gives me an error stating "The Update is not applicable to your computer". I'm not able to install any of the patch on the servers, whereas I have installed the same patches on the other 2 server. I have modified the language option as well as per the successful servers. Any help on this issue is much appreciated.

Dell R710 - Memory Configuration

$

Hi All,

I'm sure I'm missing something but I've read the two technical documents regarding memory configuration in the Dell R710.

I've got a server that currently has 48GB in laid out as follows

A1 - 4GB

A4 - 4GB

A2 - 4GB

A5 - 4GB

A3 - 4GB

A6 - 4GB

(This is then the same on the B side)

According to the BIOS it's set to 'Optimized'

Now I have 2x16GB Sticks which I wanted to install, the only way I could get it working without the BIOS moaning was to install as follows:

A2 - 16GB

A5 - 4GB

A8 - 4GB

(Duplicated on B side)

Giving 72GB.

As I read the manual I should be able to mix memory sizes for 'optimized' as long as I go from A1 to A9 and so I have a further 6x4GB sticks left I want to install.

My logic is I can fill from A1 to A9, mixing the 16GB in, however when I try I get the error about A1/A2/A3 needing to be the same?

Am I missing something simple? I'm unable to make changes in the BIOS, the memory is all the same type (Purchased from Dell)

PowerEdge T110 II SATA RAID5

Hello community.

I have purchased a used P110II. It seems to work fine, and now I want to upgrade it. It came with a PERC H200A controller. I suppose this one does not support RAID5 (or 6). So I need a relatively cheap but nice quality RAID5 controller for this server, that will have the following characteristics:

1. Battery and/or cache etc. are welcome but not trivial since the machine is going to be used as a centralized storage (no more than 3-4 users and not concurrent).

2. Inexpensive disks will be most probably used (eg. WD RE4 2TB), but support for higher-end disks would be great, as storage may be replaced in the future. SAS 6gbps should also be supported.

I have found many controllers on ebay (mainly by LSI) but I am not sure if they are compatible with the server (OS: Windows Server 2003-2008-2012 - not decided yet). Found also some HBAs but don't know what the difference is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Dell PowerEdge T110 II and 220V power supply

I recently purchased a PowserEdge T110 for our church.   However, I see that the power backup unit is setup on a 220v system.   How do I setup the PE T110 11 to accept 220v power?   Previous older tower units that I've worked with had a switch in the back but this one does not seem to have one.

Poweredge Amber Health Light After 2 new HDD's

I have an R610 that had an amber health light on Drive 0:1.  The config is RAID 1 with only drives 0 and 1 installed.

Dell sent me a new replacement drive and after inserting it and the rebuild completed, the light remained yellow and the OpenManage says failure predicted.

Dell sent me a second new drive.  Same thing.

Then the original Drive 0:0 started amber alerting with failure predicted in OpenManage.  Replaced that drive. After rebuild, amber light remains.

What shall I try next that I have replaced both drives and Windows is working just fine and the server remains on line.

Thanks!!

DELL UPS W1920

Hi all,

if this a wrong forum to post this question, let me know, but it's the closest one to the subject matter that I found.

We have a UPS W1920, Dell model P/N H928N,  it has been off for a while. When we have tried to use it again, once pressed the power button (On/Off button), nothing happens, it's dead.

The only answer that I've found to such problem is on Dell Line-Interactive Rack UPS
1000W, 1920/1500W, and 2700/2300W - User Guide, where it's stated:

Alarm or Condition: The UPS does not start. (The LCD is off.)

Possible cause: Power is not connected.

Action: Check the power cord connections. Also ensure that the battery is plugged in.

The power cord is connected and it supplies power, we have accessed the "internal battery connector" and we can check that it supplies 24 Volts to the batteries. Obviously the batteries are dead, all them connected supply through the "battery connector" around 72 Volts, and individually some ones are empty, no volts.

The question that I'm posting is if there is any kind of technical guide or similar to get more insight on the UPS to try to reborn it. Or if somebody can point me if with new batteries it would restart (the UPS remains shutdown with no alert when the batteries are totally useless).

Thanks a lot for your help.

Domain Functional levels and Dell patching

Hi,

We want to take our Domain functional levels from 2003 - 2012 in windows, but we want to update and patch the Poweredge M610 that the operating system sits on.

Currently these are the version on the server.

CC version 3.21

BIOS 6.0.7

Firmware IDRAC6 3.30

Lifecycle controller 1.5.1.57

Is it a question of just downloading the latest patches a fixes and loaded on to the box.

We have a standalone system and for security reason cannot connect the box to the internet.

Are there any gotcha's out their?

Thanks si

BSOD after updating Broadcom Drivers

I'm running Server 2008 R2 standard on a Poweredge R720 with Broadcom Netextreme Gig Ethernet nics.

I'm trying to get them teamed together using Broadcom's BACS4 app with no success. The drivers for the nics are well out of date, so I downloaded the most recent one from Broadcom's website and after updating, I cant load my OS with out getting Blue Screened.

Is this a known issue? Any tips or insight would be most appreciated.

E141C & E2011 on PowerEdge 2950-II.

This server has been sitting for about 8 months, and the last time I used it it was running fine.  It was not connected to any power in that downtime.

It has 2x2core Xeons and 8x2GB RAM.

I decided to set it up in my rack today for a project and it would not power on at all, throwing E141C CPU Mismatch.  After some troubleshooting I concluded that neither CPU would work in Socket 2, and both CPUs would work in Socket 1.  Ok, I'll just run it with one CPU then...

Now it is powering up but I'm not getting any display via VGA ports and it's throwing a code for E2011 Mem Config Error.  I tried all sorts of different combinations of installing those RAM modules including a single module in slot 1.  If any RAM is installed in this server I get E2011, and if no RAM is installed I get the code for no RAM detected.

I moved the NVRAM jumper over, booted, shut down, moved jumper back.  Same issue.

What could the problem be?  I can't even get this thing to display anything I don't even know if it's posting.  Worked fine last time I played with it which makes this even more frustrating.

IDRAC 6 express and

Raid 6 with 4 SAS disks.

One of the disks is blinking green/amber/off. Server is in production and there is no way to turn off the disk with the help of software. Is it safe to just plug out the problematic disk and then plug in the new disk?

I am running my t410 as a desktop and for live video recording (fastest pc I've ever had).  some video editing software won't run due to the *** integrated card.   I bought this for slot 5 (Dell ATI Fire GL V3100 128MB DVI VGA PCI-E Video Card) and it fits but when I boot up it says "slot 5 PCIe error "system halted".  I am not a geek so forgive me if it's something obvious.  The card was used but "tested".  Lost!

Can a Dell Windows Server 2012 R2, ROK downgrade to Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2 / ENTERPRISE ?

Hi!

Can a Dell Windows Server 2012 R2, Standard Edition, ROK Kit downgrade to Windows Server 2008 or 2008 R2 / ENTERPRISE edition ?

I just bought these:

1 x OEM Dell Windows Server 2012 R2, Standard Edition, ROK Kit [638-BBBD]

60 x CAL Microsoft Windows Server 2012 SNGL OLP NL UsrCAL [R18-04281]

I've heard many opinions regarding this issue.

1. You can downgrade if you have WS 2008 Media KIT

2. You can't downgrade WS2012 ROK

3. You can't downgrade if you didn't buy the WS2008 downgrade kit when you bought the server hardware.

4. You can buy the WS 2008 Media Kit from Dell ?

Can you please tell me which one is correct ?

I bought a while back ten of these:

Dell PowerEdge T20 with Intel® Pentium® G3220 3.0GHz, 4GB, HDD 500GB [DL-272300119]

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello ,

Does DELL R430 (with H730 HW-RAID)  Openmanage currently  supports Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSDs ? Is it certified SSD?

I have found that there exists some issues with 840 EVO series in this thread  http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/906/t/19504074

So I'm wonder what about 850 EVO Series..

Also I would like to build the RAID-10 array with 4x 850 EVO 1TB SSDs - will it work properly w/o performance degradation ?

Thanks in advance.

8 Drives installed now, would like to fully populate (16 total) I'm unsure if the backplane is fully powered and if the 495W P/S in it now is sufficient to power them all.

Service Tag and other Dell details missing after BIOS update on R710

$

Hi all,

Have just ran the most recent SUU on a clients PE R710, which amongst other things updated the BIOS to the latest v6.4.0.

Now when running some key WMI queries via Powershell get-wmiobject the Service Tag and other Dell details are missing.

For example, running Get-wmiobject Win32_computersystem, returns

Manufacturer : DELL__
Model : PE_SC3__

running Get-wmiobject Win32_bios, returns

SMBIOSBIOSVersion :
Manufacturer :
Name : Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10
SerialNumber :
Version : DELL - 1

running Get-wmiobject Win32_systemenclosure, returns

Manufacturer :
Model :
LockPresent : True
SerialNumber :
SMBIOSAssetTag :
SecurityStatus : 2

Curiously, In OMSA, under 'System Summary', the Chassis Service Tag is still showing the correct value.

I've reapplied the BIOS and it makes no difference.

any ideas on why this has happened and how i fix it?

cheers

Hello.

PowerEdge R720 here

* all latest firmware updated and I MEAN ALL.

* all CERTIFIED DELL BRANDED drives

Twin Quad Core E5-2609 56GB RAM

6 x Dell branded 300GB SAS 15k: capable 6gbps, negotiated 6gbps

Seagate ST3300657SS revision ES66

2 x Dell branded Intel SSD DS S3500 480GB: capable 6gbps, negotiated 3gbps:

INTEL SSDSC2BB480G4T revision D201DL13

My problem is that the SSD are NOT negotiating at 6gbps.

I have updated the drives to the latest 6gbps firmware.

I have checked that force 3gbps transfer for SATA is not selected.

I removed the power and press the off button for 10 sec,

I swapped the drives trays, what else?

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Dell R815 Machine Chk CPU Error

Hello,

I have a Dell R815 machine that will no longer boot properly. Every time I try and power on the machine, I can make it past the Dell splash screen but shortly after the machine will reboot itself.

The error on the machine's LCD screen is as follows: CPU Machine Chk: Processor sensor, transition to non-recoverable was asserted.

I ran the hardware diagnosis tools there were already installed on the machine and got the error code: 2900:0221. The text that went along with the error code was: System Firmware: Processor sensor (CPU Machine Chk) transition to non-recoverable.

Any advice to help with this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Casey

R510 A bus fatal error slot 3

$

R510 Description: A bus fatal error was detected on a component at slot 3, what is slot 3?

The server is a 4 bay non hot swap with 3 drives in RAID5 on a PERC S300, the 4th channel has a 1TB SSD on it. I've updated the drives from 500GB to 1TB's and installed Server 2012 R2 SP2. I have had 2 of these errors in the last 2 days and need to know what to address.

I'm thinking slot 3 is the PCI express bus, maybe PCI3ASM1062 Serial ATA Controller can anyone confirm and suggest what to do?
